At Standish Dog Trainer classes are split up according to age.  Puppies aged 12 – 18 weeks are at 10 o’clock on a Saturday morning, puppies and dogs aged over 18 weeks are at 11 o’clock on a Saturday morning.

You will find that classes with Standish Dog Trainer are focused around fun and positive reinforcement.  We use play, praise, food and toys to train our dogs.

For puppies there is lots of off lead play.  This is incredibly valuable in expanding socialisation skills, learning canine body language and a high value reward for puppies who can go play once they have performed the behaviours asked of them.  We also find that puppies who have learned to come away from puppy  play and return to their owner when asked are more reliable around dogs when they are out on walks.

For dogs aged over 18 weeks, there is lots of focus training and work on impulse control. Encouraging dogs to concentrate on their owners when asked to is very valuable especially with  adolescent dogs that are keen to explore and going through that bouncy independent stage.

In all classes we cover basic skills like sit, down, watch me, settle, recall and loose lead walking.  For puppies we also include housetraining.  For older dogs we have a few more advanced skills to learn. We also discuss socialisation in detail along with understanding canine body language and how dogs learn.  We give specific problem solving advice covering common issues like chewing, jumping up, mouthing, safe travel, grooming , appropriate play and much more.

Venue: Methodist Church Hall in Standish Free off-road parking (dozen or so spaces). We also take the opportunity to train outside when the British weather permits!

Unfortunately dogs that have fear or aggression issues with other dogs or people are not invited onto our training courses. Please contact Jo to discuss and arrange a private consultation.

Duration: All courses are 6 weeks in length and consist of 6 x 60-minute sessions, running most Saturday mornings.
